The National Bank of Bahrain participates in road afforestation in the Zalq region and Zayed City

The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) participated in a large -scale afforestation event, which included the Zallaq region and the city of Zayed, on May 17, 2025. This event came as part of the “Green Death” campaign, launched by the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector in cooperation with the following bodies: the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, and the Supreme Council for the Environment.

This project – which comes in conjunction with the International Environment Day – aims to support national aspirations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing the effects and repercussions of the phenomenon of climate change. The afforestation also contributes to enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and celebrating its ancient agricultural legacy.

The fourth stage of the afforestation campaign witnessed the cultivation of 206 trees over a total area of ​​2,518 square meters, as it included planting 118 Nem trees through an area of ​​745 square meters on the 55th road in the Zallaq area. While 76 Nem and 12 Gatrofa trees were planted across an area of ​​1,773 square meters on the 20th Road in Zayed City.

These types of plants were chosen; Because it is suitable for Bahrain’s dry climate, and its high ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions.

The afforestation event was launched during an official event held in the Zallaq area, in the presence of Sheikha Maram Bint Issa Al Khalifa, Secretary -General of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, Othman Ahmed, CEO of the National Bank of Bahrain Group, and Zina Al Zayani, head of the strategy and sustainability of the group, on the side of the presence of representatives of a number of authorities concerned with the agricultural and environmental sectors, and a number of bank employees who volunteered to participate in the afforestation for the sake Two more sustainable and green Bahr.

On this occasion, Sheikha Maram Bint Issa Al Khalifa, Secretary -General of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, commented: “Our continuous cooperation with the National Bank of Bahrain represents a model for the active partnership between the public and private sectors, which in turn contributes to achieving the goals of the national campaign for afforestation, which is in favor of promoting environmental sustainability in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

For her part, Mrs. Zina Al -Zayani, head of the strategy and sustainability of the group at the National Bank of Bahrain, stated: “Our participation in this project came as a reflection of our firm belief that effective change is based on a systematic action plan.

We are proud of our role in achieving the goals of national sustainability, by contributing to increasing green spaces on the land of Bahrain.

We also trust that planting more than 200 trees on two important roads in the Kingdom is an effective way to translate the covenant in which we adhere to the environment into tangible results.

This initiative also emphasizes that sustainability is based on the consistency of efforts, the realization of responsibility, and the unification of visions, in order to create a more healthy and green local environment. “

The national afforestation campaign is part of the efforts of the National Bank of Bahrain in the field of environmental, social and institutional governance, which aims to contribute positively to the expansion of the green area in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
