Abu Dhabi, June 13/ WAM/ The Financial, Economic and Industrial Affairs Committee of the Federal National Council, during its virtual meeting held today, headed by His Excellency Saeed Rashid Al -Abedi, head of the committee, approved its action plan to discuss a federal bill on regulating and monitoring international trafficking in endangered animals and plants.

The meeting was attended by members of the committee, His Excellency Khaled Omar Al -Kharji, the committee’s decision, Dr. Tariq Hamid Al -Tayer, First Vice -President of the Council, Aisha Rashid Litem, Dr. Marwan Obaid Al -Muhairi, Mona Khalifa Hammad, Mira Sultan Al Suwaidi, members of the Federal National Council.

According to the illustrative memorandum received from the government on a federal bill on organizing and monitoring international trafficking in endangered animals and plants, the aforementioned federal law No. 11 of 2002 was issued, with the aim of preserving animal species and wild plants threatened with extinction, within the framework of international cooperation in this field, and in implementation of the international agreement on trafficking in some types of animals and plants threatened with extinction that the state ratified in this in this The matter.

To keep pace with the developments in the provisions of the agreement referred to, and to ensure the state achieves its international obligations in this regard, and to enhance the state’s competitive position as a diversified global commercial axis to attract investment by diversifying the sources of import and opening new markets for export and re -export within accredited international conditions and controls, the draft law that aims to regulate trade in the species threatened with extinction and included in the annexes of the CITES agreement, has been proposed. Preserving animal species and wild plants threatened with extinction and international cooperation in this field, regulating international trade between countries to combat illegal trade, and maintaining environmental balance by preserving endangered species.

The draft law includes “28” articles that deal with definitions, general provisions, its goals, the scope of its validity, the prohibited actions, the competencies of the national administrative authority, the specializations of scientific authority, the border ports, the import and export The agreement, the entry and exit of shipments from the state, registration, transit samples, personal and family holdings, the certificate of ownership of personal samples, the proof of legal possession of notifications, scientific institutions, zoos and circus gardens, the commitment of veterinary installations and clinics, sanctions, seizures, and the implementation of law provisions.
