Sheikha Al -Nuwais is looking with ministers in Cyprus and Greece ways to support efforts to develop the global tourism sector

Abu Dhabi, June 15 / WAM / His Excellency Sheikha Nasser Al -Nuwais, the Secretary -General of the United Nations Tourism Organization for the period from 2026 to 2029, held bilateral meetings with a number of ministers from the Republic of Cyprus and the Republic of Greece, with the aim of discussing ways to enhance joint cooperation to support efforts to develop the global tourism sector.
This came on the sidelines of the participation of her happiness in the first version of “Investopia – Mediterranean” held in Cyprus, and witnessed a wide international participation of leaders, ministers, businessmen, investors and economic experts in the Emirates, Lebanon, Cyprus, Greece and Europe.
These meetings come within the framework of her happiness efforts to consult with international partners on the priorities of global tourism work during the next stage, in preparation for assuming the duties of the General Secretariat of the United Nations Tourism Organization during the period from 2026 to 2029.
His Excellency Sheikha Al -Nuwais stressed that tourism plays a major role in promoting sustainable economic growth, as it contributes to creating job opportunities and supports local companies in the growth of their business and increasing their revenues, and enhancing the link between cultures, noting the importance of supporting joint work to develop new initiatives and projects in various activities and tourism fields, as well as the need to expand the scope of cooperation with the countries of the world in a way that contributes to advancing the sustainable tourism development at the levels Regional and international.
She said, “Open to continue building on the organization’s achievements in various activities related to the development of tourism globally, including the progress achieved in promoting tourism data systems, linking tourism to vital sectors related to entertainment, sports, hospitality, cultural arts and urban tourism, integrating artificial intelligence in tourism development policies, and developing foreign direct investment in the field of tourism, developing competencies and human resources in Various tourism fields through training and academic programs.
In addition, His Excellency Sheikha Al -Nuwais held three bilateral meetings with ministers in the government of the Republic of Cyprus, who are, His Excellency Dr. Konstantinos Combos, Minister of Foreign Affairs; And His Excellency Babanastio, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry; His Excellency Kostas Comets, Minister of State for Tourism in Cyprus.
Her Excellency briefed the three ministers on her strategic vision in promoting the preservation of tourism and cultural identity of societies and the development of the role of tourism in creating job opportunities for young people, encouraging a culture of preserving environmental and natural resources, enhancing the ability of the tourism sector to adapt to future global challenges, and develop sustainable tourism products, stressing that the prosperity of tourism depends on empowering societies, sustaining the environment and digital transformation to ensure formulation of A flexible and sustainable future.
The two sides discussed strengthening cooperation opportunities in the well -being of wellness, which is one of the most promising sectors in stimulating the movement of travel in the region and the world, and contributes to providing distinguished and integrated tourism experiences that focus on improving health and luxury through a variety of activities such as spa, health nutrition, yoga and other practices that support a healthy lifestyle.
For their part, the Cypriot ministers expressed their appreciation for the leading Emirati experience in the development and development of tourism, stressing their keenness to expand the horizons of cooperation and exchange experiences with partners in all tourism sectors and promote destinations and tourist attractions with the organization during the next stage.
His Excellency Sheikha Al -Nuwais also held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Olga Kivalani, the Greek Minister of Tourism, to discuss the importance of exchanging experiences and best practices in developing sustainable tourism destinations, and supporting international partnerships that contribute to recovering the tourism sector globally after the challenges imposed by the past years.
Her Excellency reviewed her future vision to continue the positive development trend led by the United Nations Tourism Organization, strengthen its communication channels with partner governments in various member states, support growth potentials for the private sector and entrepreneurs in the field of tourism, and spreading a culture of sustainable tourism and tourism innovation globally.
During the meeting, her happiness was briefed on a set of strategies and work plans aimed at developing the Greek tourism sector and making it more sustainable depending on best practices, and the role of these strategies in developing specialized tourism products and improving the infrastructure of airports and ports to enhance tourism flow to tourist attractions and destinations in the Greek markets.
