The European Central Bank warns of a sharp slowdown in global trade

Brussels on June 21 / WAM / The European Central Bank warned of a great slowdown in global trade growth during the next two years, attributing this to the US tariffs and increasing uncertainty about international trade policies.
The bank reduced its expectations for the growth of global imports for 2025 to 3.1% (a decrease of 0.4 percentage points), and to 2026 to 1.7% (a sharp decrease of 1.4 percentage points).
On the other hand, the bank clarified the existence of positive factors that may support the economy of the euro area and enhance its resilience, including increasing government spending on defense and infrastructure, the high real income of families, and the strength of the labor market, as well as the improvement of financing conditions.
