"Balkan" It faces the first free wave in a summer expected to witness record heights

European capitals on June 27 / WAM / The Balkan region is witnessing the first free wave this summer, amid an accelerated rise in temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius in some areas, in light of warnings that the coming months may witness frequent and severe free waves.
The National Meteorological Authority in Croatia announced the maximum alert in two areas near the capital, Zagreb and in the east of the country, in anticipation of the exacerbation of the heat wave, while the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina warned of the temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in the city of Mostar, in the south of the country.
“Prepare to avoid external activities as much as possible, and be aware of the health risks associated with high temperature, especially for the most vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children,” said the Bosnian Federal Meteorological Institute.
For his part, Bakir Karnovich, an official in the institute, indicated in a press statement that the country may witness at least three additional free waves between now and the month of August, adding that the temperatures since the beginning of June exceeded the normal rates by three to four degrees Celsius.
These high temperatures coincide with an unprecedented drought, as this month recorded the lowest rainfall rates in 135 years.
Carnovich explained that all the climatic records that were recorded during the past twenty years are directly related to climate change, and they are witnessing a increase in repetition and intensity.
According to meteorological forecasts, temperatures are likely to be in July and August higher than normal to five to five degrees.
In Serbia, the National Meteorological Authority expected that the maximum temperatures will range, on Thursday, between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius, or nearly ten degrees above the usual rates of this time of the year.
