“American Ras Al Khaimah” records the lowest emissions of greenhouse gases

Ras Al Khaimah on June 29 / WAM / The American University of Ras Al Khaimah has achieved the lowest greenhouse gas emissions, according to the results of the greenhouse gas emissions report conducted by the company “Ze Diminechen” Consulting.

The report said that the total greenhouse gas emissions at the American University in Ras Al -Khaimah are significantly low, as greenhouse gas emissions per person 3.67 metric tons of carbon dioxide are recorded, which confirms that the university campus is on the right path to achieve the goals of sustainability set in the five -year sustainability plan.

The university has set an ambitious goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2030. This reduction will be achieved through the use of vehicles that depend on alternative energy fuel sources, reduce dependence on reserve generators on the site, and expand renewable energy sources on the campus, such as solar -powered lighting and heating systems.

Professor Stephen Wilhaite, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the American University in Ras Al Khaimah, said that the university takes sustainability seriously and we are committed to harmonizing our sustainability procedures with the strategic initiative “Safi zero by 2050” and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through intensive use of solar energy, adopting clean transportation, adhering to green buildings regulations, applying systems of systems Circular waste, incorporation of agriculture with ground -based solutions.

For his part, Professor Tahsin Anwar, the associate dean for research and sustainability and director of the Innovation Center and Entrepreneurship at the university said that our sustainability plan aims to reduce our carbon silence, and contribute to achieving the 13th goal of the United Nations goals for sustainable development: Climate work, indicating that the results of the report of greenhouse gas emissions confirm our commitment to be active contributors to international efforts to reduce retention Thermal.

He added that in addition to that, the university is involved in advanced research that focuses on finding alternative solutions to preserve the environment and also set its strategies according to the criteria of green buildings set by the “Bargil” regulations for the municipality of Ras Al Khaimah and accordingly, we aim to reduce carbon embodied in the raw materials used in new construction and major renovations on the campus.

One of the important initiatives set by the sustainability plan at the American University in Ras Al Khaimah is to enhance biological diversity on the campus and improve the quality of life for the university community. The university has begun in a partnership between the public and private sectors to establish a center for biological diversity – a place for sustainability that focuses on forests and will be a central center for research in the field of agriculture and biological diversity, with a focus on assessing the technologies and systems that It takes advantage of sewage and solar energy to enhance the circular economy.

The American University of Ras Al -Khaimah also established the Ras Al Khaimah Center for Open air rest, which works to develop innovative solutions that can enhance outdoors and outdoor life quality while enhancing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

In addition, the university held a partnership with the Emirates Environment Group to cooperate in many recycling initiatives on the campus, and it also worked to increase the awareness of employees and students of environmental and social sustainability, and has organized many training programs and competitions in cooperation with Deloitte and Suppleus to enhance green skills.
