University games .. look forward to the future of Emirati sport
Abu Dhabi, July 5 / WAM / With the conclusion of the first edition competitions of the University Games, which was held over a period of 6 months amid strong competitions among all university teams in 3 games, the course confirmed its importance for this age group of players and players as it contributed to the discovery of many promising talents, and the consolidation of the status of sport among university students.
The university games are one of the most important initiatives emanating from the “retreat of the future of sport” as it was launched with the aim of developing Emirates sport, achieving the goals of the national sport strategy 2031 by expanding the base of participation within universities, and promoting competitiveness among the sons and daughters of the Emirates.
The university games project aims to advance sports within higher education institutions through strong annual competitions, which attracts talented players sports and fans to supply professional sport with young talents from universities that embrace all groups of youth from all over the region.
University games will be held by the Emirates Sports Federation for School and University Education Institutions in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Entertainment Company, under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports, to create a stimulating sports environment in universities that contribute to discovering and developing talent among student circles in a way that enhances the state’s position as a leading and global sports destination.
The first edition competitions were held with the participation of more than 1585 male and female students from 28 universities in the Emirates in the largest offer of capabilities and talents and enhancing the capabilities of young people of both sexes, where they played 382 games in football, basketball, and plane games, and the organizing committee looks forward to increasing this number of players and players, as well as games during the upcoming copies, after the remarkable success achieved in the first version.
Basma Ahmed Abu Al -Nasr, CEO of Abu Dhabi Entertainment Company, stressed that the success of the first edition of the University Games represents a strong boost to achieve more excellence, as it represents a great incentive to continue to upgrade the ceiling of aspirations to consolidate the position of this sporting course as one of the most important events that arise the concerns of young people, highlight their energies in society positively, and urge them to exercise.
She added that the universities that participated in the course provided distinguished levels while adhering to the sportsmanship and cooperating with the organizers, which makes us strive to develop this course for the better.
Issam Termanini, coach at the American University in Dubai, said that the university teams achieved a distinguished start in the course that came at the time to represent a great incentive to develop Emirati sport.
He added that the course showed distinctive technical levels, with the presence of many talented players in the various approved games, pointing out that these competitions will have a great role in providing clubs with more distinctive models, especially with great interest and government support for them, to put them in the right place to achieve gains at all levels.
A number of players and players emphasized that the first version of university games is an ideal opportunity to discover promising university talents and work to support them and highlight specialized clubs and society, as it is an important factor in motivating male and female students to exercise and link it to study and make it a way of life.
