The pace of preparations for the United Nations Water Conference 2026 accelerated by adopting the six interactive dialogues

New York on July 10 / WAM / at a high -level preparatory meeting called by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the member states officially adopted the six axes of interactive dialogues during the United Nations Water Conference 2026, to be held in the United Arab Emirates in December next year.

This accreditation is a pivotal step within the preparatory path of the conference, which aims to enhance the water position on the global agenda, and to motivate teamwork and ambition to face the challenges related to it.

The conference is the first international event that puts the acceleration of the implementation of the sixth goal of the sustainable development goals (water availability and sanitation services for all and managing it in a sustainable manner, making it a very important opportunity to launch an effective and effective global move towards achieving concrete results in the range of water.

Since 2024, the UAE and the Republic of Senegal, with the two countries hosting the conference, have led a comprehensive and expanded consultative process that included member states and a wide range of relevant relevant authorities, including international organizations, civil society organizations, NGOs, the private sector, and academic circles.
These efforts were established in the organizational session held on March 3, 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where the initial observations and proposals were collected on interactive dialogues, followed by a round of virtual consultations that lasted for a month, during which all contributions and recommendations received from the concerned authorities were reviewed and taken into account, analyzing and integrating them into preparing the final interlocutor of interactive dialogues.

The six axes approved by interactive dialogues are: water for humans, water for prosperity, water for the planet, water for cooperation, water in multilateral operations, and investments for water.

His Excellency Abdullah Balla, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, stressed: “The water represents a common link that brings us together, and our efforts must be reflected in concrete practical steps that embody this shared responsibility.”

His Excellency said: “The conference constitutes a pivotal opportunity to correct the path and launch a global water approach characterized by the speed of implementation, coordination, and sustainability. To achieve tangible progress in ensuring access to clean water, investments must be harnessed, innovation stimulating, and strengthening partnerships for a safe and sustainable water future for all.”

After this important step, the UAE and the Republic of Senegal are starting the process of selecting the participating presidents for each of the an interactive dialogue axis, as the presidents participating will play a pivotal role in close cooperation with the two host countries and all concerned parties, in directing objective discussions and formulating the outputs of the conference.

This process is expected to be completed before the next main preparatory meeting of the conference, which will be held in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, on January 26-27, 2026.

The week in New York witnessed a series of high -level meetings and meetings, which aims to support the UAE’s preparations and enhance its international cooperation in preparation for hosting the United Nations Water Conference in 2026.

The UAE and the Republic of Senegal will host the United Nations Water Conference 2026, and will be held in the UAE in December next year.

The conference aims to accelerate the work towards achieving the sixth goal of the sustainable development goals, and to mobilize global efforts to ensure the availability of water and sanitation services for all and manage it sustainable.

Nowadays, 2.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water, and 3.5 billion people lack access to sanitation services, making the United Nations Water Conference 2026 as a timely convening to accelerate global water work.
