Minister of Economy: The UAE hosts 40,486 brands in the field of food by the end of the first half

Abu Dhabi, July 10/ WAM/ His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, headed an economic delegation that included a group of national companies operating in the fields of food and agriculture to Switzerland, with the aim of seeing best practices and global experiences in building food innovation systems, developing food economic gatherings, stimulating research and development, and adopting sustainable solutions in the food sector.
The visit included an event entitled “Enabling innovation in the food sector and building food gatherings in order to build a sustainable economic future”, which was held at the headquarters of the Biorer Group, globally in industrial and food solutions, in the Swiss city of Ozwell, in the presence of a group of representatives of private sector companies, experts and decision makers in the food sector and the Swiss food institutions.
Ibn Touq said that the UAE adopted thanks to the directives of the wise leadership, a strategic and ambitious vision aimed at developing an integrated and pioneering model for the economic gathering of food and its merged in the national economy as a promising future trend that contributes to enhancing economic and industrial integration in the country and this model is a strong motivation to enhance sustainable development and increase productivity and economic diversity, by linking multiple sectors that participate in value and production chains, including It creates a broader economic impact that extends to related areas such as agriculture, food manufacturing, transportation and logistical services, in a way that enhances the state’s position as a leading global center for food industries, economic activities and advanced industry.
His Excellency added in his speech during the event: “We aim, by adopting the Food Economic Assembly model, to create and empower new generations of producers and farmers who enjoy the highest levels of experience and access to practices in food and agricultural activities.” He expected this model to contribute within 5 years to support the gross domestic product by 10 billion dirhams, increase the volume of trade by 15 billion dirhams, and provide 20 thousand A job opportunity, in line with the targets of vision (we Emirates 2031), that the country becomes among the 10 best countries in the Food Security Index.
He explained that the food sector in the UAE is witnessing increasing growth, as the number of national and foreign trademarks registered and working in food activities and fields reached 40,486 marks by the end of the first half of the current year, and the value of the Emirates trade of food commodities and its artifacts reached 148.6 billion dirhams during the year 2024, a growth rate of 16.8% compared to 127.2 billion dirhams in 2023, and exports achieved Food Patriotism is 10.9% to reach 24.2 billion dirhams last year compared to 2023.
He noted that the event constitutes a new step to discover the opportunities for cooperation between food companies and food industries in the UAE and Switzerland in the fields of economic gatherings, technologies and related digital solutions and see the food innovation system in Switzerland and get to know the most prominent actors in it, especially since the city of Ozwell is an important center for innovation in the food sector.
He reviewed the opportunities provided by the Food Economic Assembly model in the state, investment potentials and expansion of activities and fields related to this vital sector.
The delegation’s visit included the entrepreneurial experience of the Swiss Nutrition & Food Valley as an advanced model for food gatherings, the development of sustainable and effective food solutions that serve the sustainable development goals and its vital role in enhancing Switzerland’s position as a leading global center in the areas of sustainable nutrition, innovation and food health.
The event included a number of dialogue sessions and presentations on the importance of strengthening international partnerships and intensifying efforts to exchange experiences and knowledge to advance the innovation process in the food sector.
The sessions highlighted the global initiatives and projects aimed at building a sustainable diet, reviewing the important role that Switzerland plays internationally in the field of food innovation, and its effective contribution to supporting future directions for blocs and food complexes.
