المملكة: The association of the moon’s crescent with Mars decorates the sky of the Arab world tonight

The Astronomical Society in Jeddah announced that the sky of the Arab world will witness this evening, Monday, July 28, 2025
The president of the association, Eng. Majid Abu Zahrah, explained that the corner distance between the crescent and Mars will reach about 1.7 degrees, which will make them appear very close to each other in the sky, noting that this scene will be particularly clear through bilateral endoscopy, as the two heavenly bodies will appear in the field of vision itself easily.

A frequent astronomical phenomenon

He added that “this type of association is one of the repeated astronomical phenomena, but it does not always occur in ideal monitoring conditions as is the case tonight, which gives astronomers and observers an exceptional opportunity to watch and photograph.”
During this phenomenon, Mars will be distinguished by its distinctive red color that looks like a bright, not flashing star, unlike other stars that appear sparkling due to atmospheric disorders. Abu Zahra attributed the cause of this color to the presence of iron dust that covers the surface of the planet, and gives it a unique look in the sky.
Mars is a medium distance from Earth, which is estimated at 225 million km, and monitoring enthusiasts can use the Crescent site to determine the location of the planet easily.

The president of the association stressed that this phenomenon constitutes a distinctive opportunity for astronomical imaging enthusiasts, explaining that “a 200 mm lens can be used to take a picture of the crescent and Mars collection in one frame, without the need to use special filters, provided that the camera is installed on the three -legged holder to obtain clear and stable images.”
Abu Zahrah concluded by emphasizing that “such heavenly phenomena remind us of the beauty and breadth of the universe, and give us moments of contemplative meditation and scientific monitoring,” calling on everyone not to miss the opportunity to see this charming heavenly scene, and its participation with others in an astronomical moment that deserves documentation.
