Director General of Customs: We are keen to support innovation and adopt technological solutions in customs work

Abu Dhabi, January 29 / WAM / His Excellency Ahmed Abdullah bin Lahej Al Falasi, Director General of Customs and Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, confirmed that the UAE’s hosting of the World Customs Organization Technology Conference and Exhibition 2026 reflects the advanced position that the country has reached in the field of customs work, and its pioneering role in supporting innovation and adopting advanced technological solutions at the regional and international levels.
He said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the conference constitutes a global platform that brings together an elite group of specialists and experts in the fields of customs work and smart technologies and systems used in customs sectors around the world, allowing the exchange of experiences and best practices, and discussion of the increasing challenges facing customs work in light of the rapid economic and technological transformations.
He stressed that the UAE’s vision is based on keeping pace with the future and enhancing readiness by investing in digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications, and adopting the best global experiences and developing them in a way that establishes an advanced customs model that combines efficiency, security and ease of procedures, and contributes to supporting international trade movement and the sustainability of supply chains.
He added that the UAE presented qualitative initiatives during the conference that reflect its leadership in innovation, most notably the launch of the world’s first robot customs inspector under the name “Inspector Maryam,” in addition to showcasing advanced technical solutions through the “Emirates Customs” platform, which include smart customs tariff systems and customs clearance systems based on artificial intelligence technologies that are currently applied in the country’s ports.
He pointed out that these solutions contribute to raising the efficiency of customs operations, accelerating inspection and clearance procedures, enhancing compliance and protecting society, in a way that keeps pace with the requirements of modern global trade and enhances the competitiveness of the national economy.
Al Falasi stressed the UAE’s commitment to continuing to develop its smart customs system, strengthening international partnerships, and actively contributing to shaping the future of global customs work, in a way that supports achieving a balance between the security of societies and facilitating the movement of trade through innovation and advanced technology.
It is worth noting that the conference is held at the ADNEC Abu Dhabi Center, organized by the World Customs Organization, and hosted by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security.
