Dr. Hisham Azmi expressed his happiness with this achievement, in which Cairo advanced 12 centers, where it ranked 95th last year among the first hundred countries in the world. It should be noted that the inclusion of a new criterion for the index this year represented in the activity of investment capital deals, as this criterion helps in determining how to translate scientific knowledge and technology and convert it into economic outputs that contribute to the development of society, including the establishment of startups, small and medium projects, commodities and services, which enhances the value of scientific research and its outputs. Noticeable progress during the past five years, as the number of international patent requests submitted in accordance with the patent cooperation treaty has reached seven requests per million, while the number of scientific articles published reached 1115 articles per million people, and 21 transactions were registered in the investment capital per million people. Dr. Hisham Azmi added that this continuous progress in the international classification represents a certificate of confidence in the scientific and research capabilities of Egyptian institutions, and reflects the success of the national innovation system in linking scientific research with entrepreneurship and investment, in a way that enhances Egypt’s position on the global map of innovation and qualifies it to turn into a knowledge -based economy. He added that the adoption of the WIPO this year is a new methodology in the classification by adding the index of investment capital deals in addition to international patents and scientific publishing, has helped to highlight Cairo’s dynamics in converting knowledge into emerging projects, services and innovative products. The national innovation system is in line with the targets of Egypt’s 2030 vision in building a competitive economy based on innovation and knowledge. The first rank ranked 9% of the total requests, followed by the American University in Cairo and then Enppi Petroleum Company. The report clarified that there is a clear diversity in the areas of technological excellence for patents in Cairo between medical technology, measurements, pharmaceutical sciences and digital technology.
