Abu Dhabi launches a project to diagnose multiple sclerosis using magnetic resonance imaging

Abu Dhabi, September 18/ WAM/ The Abu Dhabi Center for Stem Cells “ADSCC” and Yas Hospital – Khalifa City, in partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi “NYUAD”, represented by the brain and health center, launched a pioneering project representing a qualitative shift in the field of nervous diagnosis, by introducing innovative techniques in MRI filming “MRI” supported by artificial intelligence, to diagnose Multiple sclerosis “MS” with higher accuracy and unprecedented speed, in an achievement that establishes the position of the UAE as a global platform for medical innovation.

The two -year partnership culminated in the translation of the advanced research of New York University Abu Dhabi into practical clinical practices, which included the “Phoms” experience in Yas Hospital, which monitored brain disease changes over time, with the aim of assessing the effectiveness and safety of new treatments for multiple sclerosis, including light therapy outside the body “ECP”.

The cooperation also allowed the advanced Flairstar unit, which highlights the accurate blood vessels inside the brain and provides an sensitive indicator that enables doctors to confirm the diagnosis according to the latest international guidelines, while reducing the waiting period to start treatment.

Within the framework of the Laminate project, the MRI techniques at New York University Abu Dhabi have become available at Yas Hospital, to provide doctors with a clearer vision of brain changes, and support for accurate treatment decisions, while ensuring that all medical data is kept safely within the UAE, in order to devote the highest levels of protection for patients’ privacy.

Dr. Lev Bralev, a consultant neurosurgery at Yas Hospital – Khalifa City, said that cooperation with New York University Abu Dhabi constituted a qualitative step in developing health care for multiple sclerosis patients, explaining that integrating clinical experience with the latest techniques of artificial intelligence -backed magnetic resonance imaging provided innovative solutions that contribute to improving the level of diagnosis and treatment.

For his part, Professor Osama Abdullah, MRI in the brain and health center at New York University, Abu Dhabi, explained that this cooperation embodies an integrated model of a trip from the laboratory to the patient’s bed, indicating that the university’s research is constantly seeking to push the maximum extent of MRI.

He stated that the partnership with the clinical experience of the Yas Hospital and the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Center enabled the verification of these innovations and their application in practice in a realistic medical environment, which established a strong system for medical innovation in Abu Dhabi.

The project confirms the commitment of the three parties to integrate local innovation with global level research in medical photography, with the aim of facing the most complex nervous disorders, and strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading regional and international destination in medical excellence and advanced health care.
