Suhail Al Mazrouei: The UAE plays a pivotal role in global maritime decision -making and achieving sustainable growth
Dubai, September 30 / WAM / His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, stressed that the UAE hosting the parallel maritime event for the International Maritime Day in Dubai emphasizes the joint global commitment to protect the oceans, which is one of the most important vital resources of the planet, noting that the slogan of this year is “our surroundings – our responsibility – our opportunity” constitutes an invitation to reflect on the role that everyone plays in preserving maritime environmental systems, and guaranteeing Flexibility of shipping and navigation economies, and harnessing innovation for a sustainable future, as well as its strong harmony with the vision of the UAE naval.
His Excellency said in his opening speech to the event, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on September 30 and October, that the UAE, as part of the global marine system, plays a pivotal role in decision -making, where advanced solutions and strategies that guarantee the achievement of economic growth with the lowest possible impact on the environment.
For his part, His Excellency Arsenio Domingz, Secretary -General of the International Maritime Organization, praised the efforts of the UAE in organizing this distinguished event, stressing that such gatherings provide a vital opportunity to exchange opinions and learning, and called for continuing listening to the young generation to know what to do for the future of the sector.
In addition to the official sessions, the event witnessed artistic traditional shows that reflected the authentic Emirati marine heritage, as national teams presented paintings inspired by the civilization and history of grandparents in the sea, in a scene that embodies the close link between the past and the present, and reflects the Emirati identity.
The opening also included the presentation of a short film that highlighted the achievements of the UAE in the marine sector, and its initiatives supporting the efforts of the International Maritime Organization in promoting ocean sustainability and consolidating marine governance, including the launch of green projects and initiatives that made the UAE a global model in sustainable maritime transport.
After the opening session, the Excellencies and Excellency toured the accompanying exhibition, which includes platforms for a number of national and international institutions contrary to the latest technical solutions and innovations in the field of green maritime transport, and the participants reviewed leading Emirati projects in the fields of marine infrastructure development, the use of clean energy in ports, recycling technologies, as well as initiatives that support the enabled national competencies in the marine sector.
The UAE’s organization of this global event is a prominent station that highlights its firm commitment to leading international efforts towards maritime sustainability, and consolidating its position as a major supporter to protect the oceans and ensuring its sustainability for future generations. The event is a global platform that brings together a group of senior government officials, leaders of the international maritime sector, industry and academics experts from around the world, to discuss the most prominent challenges and opportunities facing the navigation and maritime shipping sectors at the international level.
