A little fairness to the dean… Hossam Hassan makes an exception in the history of the World Cup qualifiers

For decades, the Egyptian national team’s path to the World Cup was full of obstacles, anxiety, and complex calculations.

 

In every qualifier, the fans lived on their nerves until the last minute, but this time, the story was completely different.

Since the 1994 qualifiers, when the national team failed to win against Zimbabwe and lost the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup in America, and even The 2010 qualifiers were when we tied with Zambia in Cairo, and the dreams of a golden generation led by Maallem Hassan Shehata were lost. 

The scene of suffering continued to be repeated, as if ascending to the World Cup was a destiny that could only be achieved after a long struggle.

In 1998 we lost to Liberia, in 2002 we stumbled against Namibia, and in 2006 we did not succeed in overcoming Benin, even in the 2010 edition. 2018  Despite the historic qualification to Russia the promotion came hard-fought, from a fatal penalty kick in the last minute against Congo.

But what happened this time under the leadership of Brigadier General Hossam Hassan was completely different.

For the first time in Egypt’s history, the Pharaohs qualified for the World Cup without worry or complicated calculations,

without waiting for a result. The competitor, or clinging to the hopes of the last round.

He qualified with control and consistent performance and confidence that made the fans live the qualifiers with a calmness that is rare. Perhaps that is Hossam Hassan’s crisis, that he made what was once impossible seem normal and easy.

The national coach who knew how to instill enthusiasm and discipline in his players, restored Egypt’s football prestige, but In his own way, he is calm, confident, and persistent without noise, so the dean does not need praise as much as he needs fairness.

In a history full of anxiety, tension, and the fate of Burma looming over us, he was the one who wrote a new chapter entitled, “Egypt qualifies for the World Cup.” Simply put, this is the greatest achievement.
