The Parliament of the Union for the Mediterranean welcomed the announcement today, in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, “the Land of Peace,” of reaching a historic agreement that constitutes an end to the war in the Gaza Strip and the beginning of a new phase for peace, security and sustainable cooperation in the Middle East.

 

The Parliament of the Union for the Mediterranean praised – according to a statement, today, Thursday, the comprehensive moratorium included in the agreement. An immediate ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the entry of urgent aid to civilians, and the exchange of prisoners, which lays new foundations for consolidating peace and ending the unprecedented human suffering over more than two years of conflict.

The Parliament of the Union for the Mediterranean expressed deep thanks and appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the United States; For their exceptional efforts in bringing points of view closer together and achieving this agreement, our thanks are due to US President Donald Trump. For his direct and decisive role in reaching this historic agreement, which represents a first step on the path to implementing an integrated peace plan and returning security and stability to all the peoples of the region.

The Parliament praised the pivotal role that Egypt played over the course of two years in order to end the war, introduce aid, and achieve lasting peace, expressing its appreciation for the effective efforts made by Egypt during its hosting of the recent negotiations, which directly contributed to the completion of this transformation. decisive towards peace and stability in the region and facilitating reaching this historic agreement.

The Parliament called on the two parties, “Israeli and Palestinian” To fully implement the agreement urgently and completely, ensure the entry of urgent humanitarian aid through United Nations organizations, release all hostages and prisoners, ensure no displacement or annexation, begin the reconstruction process, and work hard to implement the two-state solution in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy.

The Parliament affirmed its firm position that the only way to achieve peace, stability, security and peaceful coexistence in the region is through Implementing the two-state solution, enabling the Palestinian people to self-determination and establishing their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
