" Sharjah Film Festival for Children and Youth" Celebrates Korean culture

Sharjah, October 11 / WAM / Yesterday, the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth celebrated the Republic of Korea, which was the guest of honor in its 12th edition, to give the audience the opportunity to explore what distinguishes Korean cinema in terms of profound human stories and distinctive productions.
The festival program included interactive workshops and discussion sessions that highlighted Korean culture, its humanitarian philosophy, and its ability to transcend the boundaries of language and culture through arts and creativity. The “Green Carpet” hosted a screening of the Korean film “2:15 PM” by director Seeryong Jung.
The festival witnessed a discussion session entitled “A Journey in Korean Cinema: From Korea to the World,” which addressed the reasons for the widespread spread of Korean cinema and its profound impact on the souls of young people around the world.
The session, which was held at Vox Cinema – City Center Al Zahia, reviewed a group of experiences of Korean school students who made their own films, embodying the spirit of creativity and imagination that characterizes the contemporary Korean cinematic scene.
During the session moderated by the Korean Club in the Emirates, Ralem Lee, Director of the Busan Film Festival, confirmed that the success of Korean cinema did not happen overnight. K-Pop music and Korean television series such as “Squid Games” were able to transform into global phenomena, which reflects the strong presence and status that Korean cinema enjoys in the world. She said that this success is the result of years of experimentation and creativity.
He noted that her visit to the Sharjah Film Festival gave her the opportunity to discover the similarities between the UAE and Korea, especially in terms of societal values and a shared vision for the future.
For her part, Korean director Shin Seo-yeon explained that her experience in producing short films began at an early age, which motivated her to continue working in this field, noting the importance of showing her film within the activities of the Sharjah International Film Festival.
In turn, Alaa Al-Awadhi, a member of the “Shogo” community – the Korean Club in the Emirates, pointed out the importance of the club’s cooperation with the Sharjah International Film Festival to open the way for more Korean films to reach the local audience, noting that the idea of establishing the Korean Club in the Emirates came as a result of a growing passion for discovering Korean culture.
In a related context, the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park hosted a series of interactive workshops through which the festival’s audience had the opportunity to learn about various aspects of Korean culture, including values, traditions and social customs that reflect the depth of Korean civilization and its ancient history.
