Abu Dhabi Health Data Services launches the Jordanian Digital Health Center

Amman, October 15, 2017 – Abu Dhabi Health Data Services Company, a subsidiary of the “M42” group, launched the “Virtual Hospital” digital health center in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in partnership with the “Brisight” company, a subsidiary of the “G42” group, the Jordanian Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, in a pioneering step in terms of digital transformation in the healthcare sector.

The new center, which connects five remote hospitals to a central command and control center in the city of Salt, is a qualitative shift in the field of digital health in Jordan, as it contributes to enhancing access to specialized health services, reducing diagnosis times, and enabling patients to receive care near their homes.

The implementation of the project comes within the framework of an expanded partnership between the public and private sectors, which aims to support the process of digital transformation of the healthcare sector in Jordan, accelerate the pace of innovation and improve the quality of medical services throughout the country.

The initiative has brought about a tangible shift in the method of providing health care through three main services, including remote intensive care, remote dialysis, and remote diagnostic radiology. Previously, diagnostic imaging reports needed up to 14 days to complete, while they are now completed in less than two days, i.e. a decrease of 85% in the time required for completion.

The remote dialysis service enabled six doctors specializing in nephrology to provide virtual care to a number of patients five times more than was previously possible, after their services were limited to 32 hospitals through expensive travel arrangements.

Through the remote intensive care service, patients’ vital indicators are sent in real time to specialized medical teams in the city of Salt. AI-powered triage systems issue immediate alerts identifying emergency cases, allowing continuous monitoring without the need to transport patients to the capital, while ensuring they receive the necessary care in a timely manner.

His Excellency Engineer Sami Samirat, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship in Jordan, said that the center constitutes a strategic step within the vision of economic modernization, by linking hospitals with an advanced digital infrastructure that contributes to improving the lives of citizens and advancing a smarter and more sustainable future. He explained that the ministry is working to harness technology and enhance the efficiency of government services by developing a comprehensive digital infrastructure that links the digital health center to the health computing system and peripheral hospitals.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Al-Badour, Jordanian Minister of Health, stressed that the project is not limited to employing modern digital tools, but rather represents a qualitative shift with a profound impact on raising the efficiency of the health system and ensuring the optimal use of resources, noting that it reflects the government’s commitment to the human right to obtain high-quality health care anywhere and at any time.

For his part, Karim Shaheen, CEO of the M42 Group’s digital health solutions platform, explained that this achievement embodies the result of cooperation between technological innovation and ambitious institutional work. The virtual center represents a prominent milestone in the health digital transformation process.

In turn, Dr. Adel Al-Sharji, Executive Director of Operations at Brisight, confirmed that the initiative embodies the company’s vision of harnessing applied artificial intelligence to serve humans and enable them to obtain advanced medical care without restrictions of place or time, noting that the project represents a practical model for digital transformation in the health sector.
