A highway in California was closed amid live fire military exercises

A major highway was closed in the state of California of the United States on Saturday due to the launch of Marine Corpslive fire over it as part of celebrations of its 250th anniversary, in an event attended by Vice President Jay D. Vance.

The closure of a 27-kilometre-long section of this highway, which connects Los Angeles and San Diego, led to traffic congestion for hours.

The governor of New York State Gavin Newsom, a critic of Donald Trump who is expected to run for the White House in 2028 "The President is putting his ego above responsibility with this disregard for public safety".

He added "Shooting live ammunition on a busy highway is not only wrong, it is dangerous"

For its part, the US Navy insisted that there was no danger to the public.

The massive maneuvers included flyovers of fighter and amphibious ships, bombings in a mock village, and landing Marines in the Pacific Ocean from helicopters.

In his speech, Vance said that the Trump administration focused on supporting the Marines. And getting rid of ideological priorities "Vigilance" (WALK), which he said weakened the armed forces.

This parade coincided with millions taking to the streets in the United States to protest against the Trump administration’s hard-line policies.
