Khamenei: Trump is delusional in his belief that he destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic said Ayatollah Ali Khamenei US President Donald Trump is delusional in his belief that he destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities were hit by US strikes in June.
He said Khamenei during his meeting with Iranian athletes: "The US President boasts: We bombed and destroyed the Iranian nuclear industry. Well, live this illusion"according to what was reported on his website.
On June 22, the United States bombed the Fordow underground uranium enrichment site in southern Tehran, in addition to nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz in the center of the country, in the midst of a 12-day war between Iran and Israel.
The exact damage toll is not yet known, but the American President has been repeating for months that these sites "Completely destroyed".
14 bombs on nuclear facilities
Donald Trump said in a speech to the Israeli parliament last week. "We dropped 14 bombs on the main nuclear facilities, and as I said from the beginning, they were completely destroyed, and that was confirmed."
He added in an interview broadcast by the station "Fox News" Sunday: "When we destroyed their nuclear capabilities, they stopped behaving recklessly in the Middle East"
The Iranian guide asked "What does it matter to America if Iran has a nuclear industry?". Addressing Trump, he added: "Who are you to say that a country should or should not have nuclear energy?"
Animosity between the two countries
Iran and the United States severed their diplomatic relations after the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and the taking of American employees hostage in the American embassy in Tehran, and since then, hostility has prevailed between the two countries.
In April, Tehran and Washington began indirect negotiations mediated by the Sultanate of Oman regarding the Iranian nuclear program, but they failed. It stopped after Israel launched a surprise attack on June 13 against Iran, sparking a 12-day war in which the United States participated alongside Israel.
During the war, Israel carried out hundreds of strikes against nuclear and military sites in Iran, and assassinated a number of scientists linked to its nuclear program, while Tehran responded by launching missiles and drones at several Israeli areas.
