Arabic calligraphy decorates the Chiang Museum of Fine Arts with pioneering Emirati participation
Dubai, October 21 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates participated as the first Arab country in the “Art Paths” exhibition organized by the Liangyu Heritage Forum in China, with the participation of an elite group of artists and calligraphers from various countries of the world, within the framework of enhancing cultural dialogue between the Arab and Chinese civilizations.
The Emirati delegation was headed by the artist and calligrapher Khaled Al Jallaf, President of the Emirati Calligraphers Association, and its membership included calligraphers Fatima Salmeen, Vice President of the Association, and Fatima Al Hammadi, Member of the Board of Directors.
The UAE participation witnessed the opening of the joint Chinese-Emirati calligraphy exhibition at the Chiang Museum of Fine Arts, which was opened by the president of the museum in the presence of an elite group of Chinese academics, artists and calligraphers. The UAE’s contribution received wide praise as a qualitative step in enhancing the presence of Arabic calligraphy in the Asian cultural space.
Artist Khaled Al-Jallaf gave a speech during the opening in which he expressed his thanks to China, the Liangyu Forum, and the Xiang Museum for the generous hosting, stressing that this participation represents a bridge for artistic and cognitive communication between the two peoples. He also gave a lecture in which he discussed the history of Arabic calligraphy, its artistic schools, and its influence on global cultures, followed by a joint symposium between Emirati and Chinese calligraphers on the aesthetic and cognitive aspects of Arabic and Chinese calligraphy.
At the conclusion of the event, the head of the Chiang Museum honored the artist Khaled Al-Jallaf by presenting a calligraphy painting to be the first Arabic work in the museum’s permanent collections, while the delegation concluded its visit with an artistic workshop on Arabic calligraphy, which received the admiration of the Chinese attendees and their great interaction.
