Minister of Labour: We continue to provide support and care to irregular workers in all governorates
The Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gibran, today, Wednesday, approved the disbursement of 2 million and 990 thousand pounds to provide aspects of health and social care and accident benefits to 272 irregular workers in 23 governorates, from the central account for the protection and care of irregular workers in the Ministry of Labor, within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to support the most needy groups and strengthen social protection networks.
He explained. Gibran – in a statement – said that the amounts disbursed include one million and 410 thousand pounds directed for social and health care purposes, and include grants for marriage, birth, and death of first-degree relatives, in addition to assistance for performing major and minor surgeries, benefiting 256 workers.
The Minister of Labor confirmed that the Ministry continues to provide all aspects of support and care for irregular workers in all governorates, in implementation of the directives. His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the need to expand the umbrella of social protection for the most needy groups.
The Minister indicated that one million and 580 thousand pounds were disbursed from the accident response item, distributed over two accidents, where one million and 180 thousand pounds were allocated to the workers who died and were injured in an accident that overturned a semi-truck loaded with agricultural workers on Al-Khatahtba Road – Sadat, which resulted in the death of 5 workers and the injury of 9 others, at a rate of 200 thousand pounds for each deceased and 20 thousand pounds for each injured person. The second accident was the collapse of one of the trusses inside a factory belonging to a Chinese company in Menoufia Governorate, and resulted in the death of two workers, as 400 thousand pounds were disbursed to their families, at a rate of 200 thousand pounds for each family.
The minister said: Caring for irregular workers represents a priority in the work of the ministry, In implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, we are constantly working to expand the umbrella of protection to include everyone who deserves it, to ensure a decent and safe life for every worker who participates in building this nation.
