UAE University showcases innovative student projects during World Food Week 2025

ABU DHABI, 22nd October / WAM / The United Arab Emirates University, represented by the College of Food and Agriculture and the College of Veterinary Medicine, is participating in the activities of the World Food Week 2025 exhibition at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

During the exhibition, students from both colleges reviewed a group of research projects and innovative initiatives that reflect the university’s efforts in empowering youth and enhancing their role in the sustainable agricultural and food development sector.

Participation confirms the university’s keenness to support innovation and adopt modern scientific solutions in the fields of food security and animal production, which contributes to achieving the UAE’s vision towards a sustainable and integrated food future.

Aisha Al Kaabi, a student majoring in food science at the United Arab Emirates University, said that the university’s participation in the World Food Week 2025 exhibition comes as part of its efforts to empower students and enhance their role in developing innovative solutions for food security and sustainability.

Al Kaabi explained that her project aims to transform the manual aseptic dilution process into a smart, automated system that contributes to raising the efficiency and accuracy of work in laboratories, noting that the student team also reviewed a number of other innovative projects, including growing small local vegetables such as ghaf, shu`a, and palm trees in homes to support local production and promote a sustainable lifestyle in the UAE.

She added that among the prominent projects is the use of improved date kernels as low-cost animal feed with therapeutic properties for pathogenic bacteria, an innovation that has been registered as a patent in the United States, the European Union and Hong Kong, in addition to a project that relies on beneficial microbes to achieve the goals of the UAE Vision for Food Security 2051, and the “Abzine” project, which highlights the concepts of clean food. Reducing waste is part of national sustainability goals.
