Messi breaks Klose’s record…and becomes the all-time top scorer in the World Cup

Argentine star Lionel Messi entered the history books again, after he broke the record for the number of goals scored in the World Cup finals, by scoring the first “Tango” goal against Austria in the 2026 World Cup, and the 17th of his World Cup career, today, Monday.

Messi, who will turn 39 next Wednesday, broke the previous record set by German Miroslav Klose (16 goals).
The legend started the tournament by scoring a hat-trick in the opening 3-0 victory over Algeria.
