Regulating the use of lanes for bicycles, heavy vehicles and buses in Sharjah

The Sharjah Police General Command, in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority, announced the allocation of specific traffic lanes for motorcycles – including delivery bikes -, heavy vehicles and buses, on the main and secondary roads and streets in the emirate, starting from the first of next November, as part of its continuing efforts to regulate traffic, achieve optimal use of lanes, enhance the flow of movement, and raise levels of traffic safety in The emirate.
Sharjah Police explained that the lane on the far right has been designated for heavy vehicles and buses on the roads, while motorcycles are allowed to use the third and fourth lanes from the right if the road consists of four lanes, while on three-lane roads they are allowed to travel in the middle or right lane, according to the approved traffic regulations, and in the event that there are two lanes they are allowed to travel on the right side only.
She confirmed that monitoring operations will be conducted around the clock via smart radars and modern camera systems deployed in various streets of the Emirate of Sharjah, in addition to traffic patrols monitoring drivers’ commitment to using designated lanes and adhering to traffic instructions.
She indicated that the fines will be applied in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Traffic Law, as Article 8 stipulates the imposition of a fine of 1,500 dirhams and 12 traffic points in the event that a heavy vehicle does not adhere to the mandatory lane, while Article 70 stipulates the imposition of a fine of 500 dirhams in the event that drivers do not adhere to traffic signs and instructions.
The Sharjah Police General Command called on all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and instructions, and to adhere to the lanes designated for each category of vehicles, stressing that this regulation comes within the framework of its keenness to enhance the culture of traffic safety and ensure the smooth flow of movement on the roads. Which reflects positively on the quality of life in the Emirate of Sharjah.
