Aboul Gheit condemns the Israeli occupation taking steps towards annexing Palestinian lands in the West Bank

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned the parliament of the occupying state, the “Israeli Knesset,” for taking steps that open a path towards implementing the annexation of occupied Palestinian lands in the West Bank, calling on the international community and the signatory countries of the New York Declaration on implementing the two-state solution to decisively confront these extremist Israeli tendencies.

Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for The Secretary-General, Aboul Gheit, confirmed that silence regarding these Israeli moves will encourage the extreme right and settlement groups to move forward with their plan to create a new reality on the ground by annexing the Palestinian territories.

The official spokesman pointed out that the approval of two laws yesterday regarding annexation in the preliminary reading – represents a test balloon for the extent of the international community’s solidity in standing. Firmly against the plans of the extreme right, stressing the necessity of activating sanctions and economic boycott policies against all settlement activities in Israel until a unified message is conveyed that annexation is universally rejected and will not pass.

On the other hand, Aboul Gheit welcomed the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice yesterday, which stressed the responsibility of the Israeli occupation in enforcing it. Aid to Gaza and warned against using starvation as a weapon, and against making conditions in Gaza unbearable and forcing residents to leave, considering that this represents a practice of forced displacement that is a flagrant violation of international law.
