Minister of Higher Education: Egypt joining the… "Horizon Europe" It enhances its international position in the research and innovation system

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, confirmed that Egypt’s official accession to the “Horizon Europe” program For research and innovation; It is considered a historic step that reflects the advanced position of Egyptian scientific research on the international scene, and opens broad horizons for researchers, universities and research centers to participate in European Union programmes, pointing out that the Ministry has already begun to activate the agreement through immediate action to participate in international forums concerned with research and innovation.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Research stated Scientific, according to a statement issued today, Friday, that the Ministry’s delegation participated in the activities of the “Innovation Exhibition 2025” Which was held yesterday in the Belgian capital, “Brussels,” under the title “Empowering the Next Step.” The delegation included: Dr. Salma Yousry, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation, Dr. Abdel Hamid Al-Zuhairi, chief negotiator of the accession agreement and co-chair of the PRIMA program, and Dr. Amr Radwan, representative of the Research Academy. Scientific and Technology (ASRT), and Ms. Nourhan Sobeih, the Ministry’s International Cooperation Officer.
The participation came in implementation of Dr. Ayman Ashour’s assignments to take immediate action to activate the agreement for Egypt to join the “Horizon Europe” program. For research and innovation, which was officially signed one day before the exhibition, by participating in international forums concerned with research and innovation, enhancing communication with European and international partners to build effective cooperation networks, and increasing opportunities for Egyptian participation in open programs, especially in areas available exclusively to the joining countries and with national priorities such as green transformation, health, technology, investment support and sector participation. Private.
The Innovation Exhibition is one of the most prominent regional multilateral events in the field of research and innovation, as it brings together European-African and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, and is held within the framework of implementing the joint innovation agenda between the African Union and the European Union (2023-2033), and the new Charter for the Mediterranean, in addition to road maps for research and innovation. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
During the exhibition activities, the Egyptian delegation participated in official activities, as the Egyptian pavilion confirmed the announcement of Egypt’s accession to the (Horizon Europe) programme, indicating that this step represents a practical start towards enhancing the participation of Egyptian researchers in European programs, linking Europe and Africa, and expanding the scope of partnerships with European research and innovation institutions. And African. The Union for the Mediterranean, and the African Union, where the latest innovations and applied solutions were presented in the fields of public health, green transformation, technology and innovation, and scientific capacity building. The exhibition also provided a platform for networking and holding bilateral meetings to enhance partnerships and exchange experiences.
The Ministry affirmed its keenness to continue active participation in major international events and enhance Egypt’s presence in the global research and innovation system.
