A scandal that shakes the Israeli entity: The military prosecutor is involved in leaking the torture video

Today, Wednesday, the Israeli occupation army witnessed an unprecedented scandal, after the Israeli police announced the opening of a criminal investigation against senior officials in the Military Prosecution on suspicion of tampering with the course of “justice.” And the leaking of secret investigation materials related to the case of the torture of a Hamas detainee in the “Sde Teman” military detention center. In the Negev, including the video that documented the incident and was sent to the media.

According to what was published by the newspaper “Maariv”, the circle of suspicion includes the military prosecutor, Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, who herself announced that she was going on temporary leave until the end of the investigation.

This came after she informed the Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevy, that she was forced to step down temporarily, and the latter agreed to She requested it, amid fear within the army of the possibility of her prior knowledge of the leak or failure to prevent it from occurring.

Military sources said that the investigation focuses on the suspicion of the involvement of officers from the Military Prosecution in leaking the video clip that shows reserve soldiers dealing with a Hamas detainee in the aforementioned prison.

An official statement issued by the army confirmed that “the police have opened a criminal investigation regarding the leak of the video from the Sde Teman center, and the possibility is being examined.” Members of the Military Prosecution were involved in the case.”

The Minister of the Israeli Occupation Army, Yisrael Katz, commented on the developments, saying: “The Chief of Staff informed me that following the criminal investigation into the case of leaking the tape from Sde Teman prison, and verifying the possible involvement of members of the Military Prosecution, it was decided that the Military Prosecutor would go on leave. I support the decision and consider it correct, as the case is serious because it created slander against army soldiers inside and outside Israel, and it must be investigated until the end.”

In parallel, the Israeli occupation army spokesman issued an official statement in which it said: “A criminal investigation has been opened regarding the publication of the video from Sde Teman, and the involvement of officials in the military prosecution is being verified. At this stage, the Chief of Staff agreed to the Military Prosecutor General’s request to take leave until all the details became clear.

The government’s judicial advisor had stated last September before the Supreme Court that “the previous investigation had not succeeded in determining the source of the video leak, and no serious indicators or concrete evidence had emerged that would allow the examination to continue.”

But she announced today that “the decision to open the new investigation came after the recent receipt of new information,” stressing that “The investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision of the Police Investigation Department, headed by Major General Boaz Platt, and under the direct legal supervision of the government’s judicial advisor, in a precedent that is the first of its kind in Israel.”

It should be noted that the case goes back to the investigation into accusations against five reserve soldiers from Battalion 100, who are suspected of assaulting a Hamas detainee inside the “Sde Timan” detention center.

And during the course of the investigation In the judiciary, a video documenting the incident was leaked to the Israeli and international media, which caused a major scandal for the Israeli occupation army, and raised accusations that the military prosecution itself leaked the video to influence the court’s decisions.

The accused soldiers completely denied what was attributed to them, stressing that they did not torture the prisoner, but rather used “necessary force.” Only to restrain him after he attacked them, while sources on the Israeli right accused the military prosecution of “causing severe harm to the soldiers and harming the image of the Israeli army in the world.”

Observers describe this case as an “institutional earthquake.” Within the Israeli occupation army, because of its serious repercussions on the credibility of the military prosecution and the public’s confidence in it, especially in light of the repeated accusations that the leaking of the video “contributed to an international smear campaign against Israel,” and damaged its reputation as a “moral army.”
