Fujairah Children’s Book Fair celebrates Emirati culture, heritage and history

Fujairah, 1st November / WAM / The Fujairah Children’s Book Fair continues its activities that focus on introducing visitors to the Emirati cultural heritage, through activities and workshops that evoke the vocabulary of the local heritage and connect children to the roots of national identity.
In this context, the exhibition presented a distinguished workshop on the story of the Emirati cultural heritage and the Emirati salty element, during which the cultural heritage project official at Dar Al-Muhit Publishing House, Musab Amer Abu Hazeem, and Emirati heritage researcher Fatima Al-Jabri, reviewed the concept of heritage in general and its tangible and intangible types, in addition to digital heritage. The workshop also discussed the story of the Emirati salty, one of the most prominent heritage components in local cuisine, where the children learned about ancient methods of preparing and preserving salty food through an entertaining, educational, awareness-raising activity.
The workshop addressed an awareness aspect about environmental sustainability, as the two speakers reviewed ways to recycle fish waste and use it in the manufacture of organic fertilizers and animal feed.
The main theater hosted writer Jolina Johnson in a story session entitled “The Pearl Diver” to explore the world of traditional diving in search of pearl treasures. The audience explored, by showing clips from the historical film “Pearl of the Coast,” original heritage collectibles in an experience that combined knowledge, heritage, and maritime adventure.
In another workshop entitled “The Saluki, the Bedouin Dog,” children from Johnson also learned about the loyalty of Saluki dogs and their relationship with the Bedouins. The workshop included scenes from the movie Running with the Wind, in addition to interactive activities that blended authenticity, the spirit of adventure, and learning.
Children who visited the exhibition interacted with Abdullah Al Ali, the youngest Emirati economist, in a workshop entitled “How to Save?” He discussed the importance of saving and its role in developing financial awareness among children. He presented three models of saving methods: the exchange piggy bank, the savings piggy bank, and the participation piggy bank.
On the other hand, participating exhibitors from outside the Emirates at the Fujairah Children’s Book Fair praised the great efforts made by those organizing the fair, appreciating the capabilities and facilities provided by the organizing committee, which had a significant impact on the success of the events and attracting visitors from different age groups.
They pointed to the logistical and media support that accompanied the event since its inception, stressing that the cooperation and coordination they witnessed reflects the keenness to provide an ideal cultural environment that encourages reading, supports the creativity of children and young people, and embodies Fujairah’s position as a leading cultural center in the UAE.
Sultan bin Humaidan, representative of the Arabian Manga Company, affiliated with the Saudi Research and Media Group, expressed his happiness with the first participation in the Fujairah Children’s Book Fair, praising the professional organization and distinguished services provided to exhibitors.
He stressed that the exhibition constitutes a leading cultural platform in supporting the culture of Arab children and encouraging the publishing industry directed to new generations, expressing Manga Company’s aspiration to participate in the next sessions of this remarkable event.
For his part, Abdul Aziz Al-Safadi from Nabja Publishing House from the State of Qatar mentioned the importance of participating in the exhibition, which provides an interactive atmosphere for children and young people, noting that the various activities of educational and creative workshops and reading sessions contributed to developing thinking and innovation skills among young people, and enhancing their love of reading and knowledge, hoping that the horizons of the exhibition will expand with more external participation.
Ahmed Abdel Rahim, from Dar Nahdet Misr, also welcomed the idea of organizing the second session with an international character, as it provided an opportunity for international publishing houses to display their publications, which were widely received by children and visitors alike. He pointed out that their participation in the exhibition was an inspiring and useful experience, which gave them the opportunity to learn about the passion of the Fujairah and Emirati public for reading and information, stressing that the response to the publishing houses was positive.
The Fujairah Children’s Book Fair launched the Lost Book Competition, where the organizers hid gift bags in multiple corners inside the exhibition, to encourage children to move, explore, and search in the spirit of adventure.
Each bag includes a set of books and educational and entertaining gifts, giving children an enjoyable experience that combines entertainment and knowledge.
The exhibition will receive visitors tomorrow, Sunday, on its closing day, with a wide range of workshops and events.
