The Minister of Petroleum discusses with the President "Eni" Cypriot gas exploration and transportation programs

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, discussed today, Sunday, with the CEO of the Italian company Eni, Claudio Descalzi, ways to accelerate exploration and production programs and plans in the company’s operating areas in the Mediterranean.

 

This came during the minister’s meeting with Descalzi, on the sidelines of participation in the ADIPEC 2025 conference in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, in which a number of energy company leaders are participating. Global.

 

The Minister expressed his pride in the depth of the extended partnership with Eni – the largest investor in the energy sector in Egypt – over the course of decades.

With regard to the Zohr field, the Minister stressed the importance of the accelerated drilling program to increase production, praising the recent positive results in drilling new wells to increase production from the field, which currently represents approximately 25% of local production, in light of the state’s keenness to create an attractive investment environment and reduce Any challenges to support increased production.

In the context of strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional energy center, the Minister praised the recent agreement to use the Egyptian infrastructure to transport Cypriot gas, stressing the readiness of Egyptian facilities to receive gas from the Kronos field. He stressed the continuation of close coordination between Egypt, Cyprus and investment partners in the field under the auspices and support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Cypriot counterpart, President Nikos Christodoulides.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister extended an official invitation to Descalzi to be a guest of honor and a keynote speaker at the Egypt International Energy Conference EGYPES 2026.
