Fatima Adel: One of my legislative priorities is to issue a comprehensive law to combat violence against women and empower them economically

Dr. Fatima Adel, a member of the Youth Coordination of Parties and Politicians for the Justice Party, a candidate for membership in the House of Representatives within the National List for Egypt in the North, Central and South Upper Egypt sector constituency, said that empowering women is both legislation and awareness, because women represent more than 50% of the population and have potential, but there are still economic and social barriers that prevent them from participating fully within society.

She added during her participation in the salon held by the Coordination of Youth of Parties and Politics, today, Monday, under the title “Under the Dome… Candidates’ Programs and Voters’ Aspirations” to discuss and present the features of the electoral programs of the new candidates, in the House of Representatives elections, within the national list “For Egypt”: “My legislative priorities have two main axes. The first is to introduce a comprehensive law to combat social violence against women. In 2023, more than 950 cases of violence against women were recorded, including 490 cases of domestic violence and 360 cases of murder, therefore I aspire to issue a law that expands the criminalization of violence based on social violence, and we are trying to limit that.”

She continued that the second axis is to issue legislation for the economic empowerment of women because the rate of women’s participation in the labor market is 15% compared to men. She said: I seek to oblige employers in the public and private sectors to implement flexibility in work and set wages for the same type of work so that there is no discrimination between men and women, and the necessity of issuing a law that allows for incentives for women-friendly institutions, and there is support for institutions that employ a certain percentage of women. And advancement within the organization.
