The Governor of South Sinai participates in the Arab Conference for Blue Economy and Sustainable Development in Sharm El-Sheikh

Major General Dr. Khaled Mubarak, Governor of South Sinai, participated in the activities of the fourth edition of the Arab Conference for the Blue Economy and Sustainable Development, which began this morning in Sharm El-Sheikh – City of Peace – At the Park Regency Hotel, with the participation of a number of ministers and representatives of Arab and international organizations, in addition to an elite group of experts and researchers in the fields of economics, environment and development.
In his speech during the opening session, the governor welcomed the honorable audience, expressing his happiness at the holding of this important Arab event in the land of Egypt, which has become – Thanks to its rational political leadership headed by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi – A beacon of security and peace, and a global center for dialogue and cooperation for a more sustainable and just future.
Major General Dr. Khaled Mubarak stressed that holding the conference in Sharm El-Sheikh embodies the city’s position as a leading platform for dialogue on climate issues and sustainable development, noting that the conference reflects the commitment of Arab countries to strengthening cooperation to confront environmental challenges, protect natural resources, and support investment opportunities in the blue economy and clean energy, within the framework of achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 and development goals. The governor pointed out that South Sinai Governorate has witnessed, in recent years, a qualitative boom in the field of green cities through the “Green Sharm” initiative. Launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to transform the city of Sharm El-Sheikh into an environmentally friendly city based on clean energy and electric transportation, which qualified it to win the ICLEI Green Cities Award.
He added that the governorate is working to generalize the experience in the rest of the cities of South Sinai within the framework of the sustainable development strategy and expansion of clean energy projects and integrated environmental paths, stressing that the blue economy is the hope of the future, and that achieving a balance between economic development and environmental protection is a priority. The governor concluded his speech by emphasizing the continuation of Arab cooperation in supporting environmental initiatives and investing in the blue economy, praising the efforts of the Egyptian state in leading the process of sustainable development. The Arab Conference for Blue Economy and Sustainable Development will be held in its fourth edition in 2025 in Sharm El-Sheikh, in parallel with the activities of the Arab Land and Climate Forum, which is organized by the Arab Network for Non-Governmental Organizations under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of the Arab Gulf Program for Development “AGFUND”, and with the participation of the League of Arab States, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Arab Council for Children.
This edition is held under the title “Land and Sea in Harmony: Paths to the Blue Economy,” and the slogan “For an Arab region more capable of adapting to climate change,” as its activities focus on enhancing integration between land and sea within the framework of the concept of the blue economy, and investing marine and coastal resources to achieve economic growth while preserving the environment and diversity. The conference is an extension of a scientific and institutional process that began in 2022, with the aim of strengthening Arab and regional dialogue on issues of environment, climate and sustainable development, and unifying efforts between governments, international organizations, the private sector and civil society in order to build a more sustainable and environmentally just future in the Arab region.
The conference agenda includes a set of sessions and themes that address sustainable investment in marine resources, renewable energy, Ecotourism and aquaculture, as well as protecting coastal systems, rehabilitating coral reefs and mangroves, and reducing plastic pollution. The conference also pays special attention to empowering coastal communities and small-scale fishermen, and promoting blue finance as a pillar of green economic transformation in the Arab world.
