"Mazayna Sweihan" The Al Dhafra Festival attracts 2,402 owners of purebred camels

ABU DHABI, 6th November, 2017 (WAM) – The Sweihan Mazayna, the first leg of the 19th Al Dhafra Festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, in the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Heritage Square in the city of Sweihan during the period from October 27 to November 3, witnessed the participation of 2,402 owners of purebred camels from Al-Majahim, locals, and purebred hybrids from six Gulf and Arab countries, namely the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Sultanate of Oman, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, and the Republic of Yemen.
The auction competitions continued for eight days, with 76 rounds for which 730 prizes were allocated, with a total value of 11 million and 450 thousand dirhams. The rounds were divided between local camels (38 rounds), Al-Majahim (32 rounds), and purebred camels (6 rounds), and all of them included 6 age categories: “Mafarid, Haqayeq, Laqaya, Iza’a, Thanaya, and Hawal.”
The main platform for the camel auction in Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Heritage Square in Sweihan City attracted more than 24,000 visitors, including camel owners, lovers of heritage auctions, and tourists who came to follow the competitions and learn about aspects of heritage during the camel auction season in Abu Dhabi.
Camel owners are preparing to move to the second station of the nineteenth Al Dhafra Festival, “Razeen Auction,” the competitions of which will be held from November 15 to 22, then the third station, “Madinat Zayed Auction,” from December 13 to 20, and the auctions will conclude with the fourth and final station, “Al Dhafra Festival Auction,” from January 3 to 22, 2026.
