“Symphony” embodies the contradictions of life in Carmina Burana at the Opera House… Saturday

The Opera House, headed by Dr. Alaa Abdel Salam, celebrates the 130th anniversary of the birth of the famous German composer Carl Orff during an evening of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra’s musical series, under the supervision of the music director and principal conductor, Maestro Ahmed Al-Saidi, and conducted by Maestro Adel Shalaby.
With the participation of soprano singers Mona Rafla, tenor Amr Medhat, Baritone Johannes Eder with the acapella choir, Adham Ezzat training, acapella training for children, Nader Naji training, and Mira Nader piano training, at eight in the evening, Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Grand Theater.
The evening comes as a continuation of the plans of the Ministry of Culture aimed at spreading the colors of serious arts in society, and includes the Carmen sequence by Bizet and Schedrin, in addition to the cantata. The famous Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, which embodies the conflicts and contradictions of life represented by good and evil, love and hate, happiness and pain.
It is noteworthy that the author of Carmina Burana belongs to the " cantata " Which means in Italian " Song " It has a religious or secular character and is considered one of the types of Western music composition that is written for one voice or multiple voices and is accompanied by different musical instruments and the texts of its songs. It dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was discovered in a Benedictine monastery in the city of Buren in the Bavaria region and was initially written in Latin and then transferred to the German language.
It is worth noting that Karl Orff (1895-1982) is a German musician. Famous, he left his mark in the world of music through his educational works and his music curriculum for children, and Carmina Burana is considered one of the most prominent. He presented an educational method that combined music with movement, drama, and words.
He called it the Orff Method. He won several awards in the period after World War II, including the Munich Music Prize 1947, the New York Music Prize 1954, the Bremen Music Prize 1956, and the Mozart Prize. 1969, he received a number of decorations, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Bavarian Order of Merit, the National Award from East Germany, the Order of Merit for Arts and Sciences, and in addition, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Munich in 1972.
