The Israeli Air Force attacks southern Lebanon

The Israeli army announced, today, Thursday, that its air force attacked Hezbollah members in the Tire area in southern Lebanon.  Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported: The army said in a brief statement that the members were targeted while they were working in the party’s infrastructure.

The spokesman claimed that the infrastructure was being used to produce equipment as part of the rehabilitation of infrastructure that was attacked and destroyed during the war.  Lebanese media confirmed the raid, noting that it hit the Abbasiya area and a valley located between the villages of Tura and Tairdaba, without details of the human or material losses yet being known.

The raid comes in light of the escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah for several months.  Israel accuses Hezbollah of working to restore its military capabilities and says that its raids target it, while Lebanon accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement that was reached under American-French auspices on November 27, 2024, through these raids and maintaining forces inside its territory.

Observers point out that these developments increase fears that the situation will slide into a broader confrontation in the southern region.  Two days ago, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, confirmed that Hezbollah has fully committed to what was stipulated in the ceasefire agreement, noting that the Lebanese army has deployed in the southern Litani region with more than 9,000 members and officers, and is capable of deploying on the internationally recognized borders, but what hinders this is the continued Israeli occupation of large parts of southern Lebanese territory.
