Fraudsters disguise themselves as Dubai Municipality employees and send fake letters with checks and fines

Dubai Municipality has warned the public of fraudulent methods practiced by people masquerading as municipal employees or field inspectors, by sending fake messages related to “inspection” or “violations and fines,” with the aim of deceiving customers and obtaining their information and personal data.

The municipality confirmed that these messages are often sent through fake support accounts via social media applications or email, and include links or requests to share personal or official information, stressing the need not to respond to them or deal with any party impersonating them, in addition to always verifying the employee’s identity through official channels before taking any action.

She called on the public to verify the authenticity of messages through the official hotline and to speak directly with the call center employees on the toll-free number: 800900, or to verify messages through the municipality’s smart application, DubaiMunicipality, and not to share copies of documents, identity data, or transaction details, stressing that its services depend on documented and approved channels only.

It also called on customers to avoid using public networks while using electronic services, and not to log in to municipal accounts, apply for any services, or make any payments online using public networks in commercial centers or cafes, and use the home network or mobile phone network to ensure that data does not reach authorized persons.

The municipality affirmed its continued commitment to educating the community about new digital fraud methods, and stressed the importance of immediately reporting any suspicious attempt, in order to enhance the protection of customers and ensure data integrity.
