UN Secretary-General urges world leaders to limit global warming

United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, called today, Thursday, as world leaders gathered in Brazil to attend the COP30 climate summit, for urgent action to limit the rise in global temperatures, explaining that the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees is within reach.
Guterres told leaders in the Brazilian city of Belém – according to what was stated in a UN statement: “Every bit of temperature means more hunger.” And displacement and loss, especially for those least responsible for rising temperatures.”
He added: “This could push ecosystems to irreversible tipping points, expose billions to unlivable conditions, and amplify threats to peace and security,” explaining that failure to contain global warming amounts to “a moral failure and fatal neglect.”
