"Cyber security" Beware of videos and audios "Deep fakes"

Abu Dhabi, 7 November / WAM / The Cyber Security Council of the UAE Government called on members of society to be vigilant against the spread of fake videos and audios created using “Deep Fake” techniques, stressing the danger of these clips that use artificial intelligence to mislead the public and broadcast unreal messages.

The Council explained that “deep fake” techniques are witnessing rapid spread with the development of artificial intelligence tools, as original clips of real people can be analyzed and then simulated videos and audios are generated with high accuracy, which is difficult for the average recipient to distinguish between them and the original.

He urged community members to deal consciously and responsibly with digital content and avoid re-publishing or circulating clips of questionable authenticity, calling for relying on official and reliable sources to verify any material published in the name of public figures or national bodies.

The Cybersecurity Council stressed that raising societal awareness of the dangers of “deep fakes” constitutes the first line of defense against digital misinformation and protecting the reputation of national symbols and official institutions in the UAE.

The Council added: The Anti-Rumors and Cybercrimes Law No. 34 of 2021 imposed deterrent penalties against the perpetrators of these crimes in order to enhance the protection of society from cybercrimes committed through Internet networks and technologies, and to combat the spread of rumours, fake news, and electronic fraud.
