Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed chairs the meeting of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Council

Abu Dhabi, 7 November / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Office for Special Affairs, chaired the meeting of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Council, which was held today at Beach Palace.

The meeting discussed the most prominent aspects of the strategic plan related to shaping the future of the smart transportation sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and upgrading the public transportation system using self-driving systems on land, sea, and air.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was briefed on the latest preparations for organizing the activities of the first edition of the “Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week”, during the period from 10 to 15 November, which highlights the latest global technologies and experiences in the smart mobility sector.

The Council discussed the results of the first phase of operational experiments for autonomous vehicles and systems in various land, sea and air environments in Abu Dhabi, where the results showed significant progress in the efficiency and safety of these systems, while identifying the next steps to expand the scope of these experiments.

His Highness also reviewed the latest developments in the partnerships and agreements signed by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, in cooperation with the Integrated Transport Center (Abu Dhabi Mobility) and the rest of the parties concerned with the smart mobility sector.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of investing in the innovation and advanced technology system, as it is a fundamental pillar in building a diversified and sustainable knowledge economy, noting that the smart mobility sector has become a major driver in the economic diversification strategy.

His Highness directed the concerted efforts of government and semi-government agencies to facilitate the procedures for establishing emerging companies specialized in the smart mobility sector, and to simplify and unify the requirements for implementing operational trials of autonomous systems in accordance with the highest standards of security and safety.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al-Bannai, Advisor to the President of the State for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology; His Excellency Muhammad Ali Al-Shurafa, Head of the Department of Municipalities and Transport; His Excellency Ahmed Jassim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development; His Excellency Major General Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoun Al Muhairi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police; His Excellency Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, Director of the Office of the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Special Affairs; His Excellency Badr Salim Sultan Al Olama, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.
