Food safety: 4,015 export consignments within a week… and campaigns on markets

 

The media center of the National Food Safety Authority issued the 41st weekly report for the year 2025, for the period from November 1 to 7, explaining the implementation of expanded monitoring activities in the areas of exports, imports, field control, and licensing to ensure the circulation of safe food in local and international markets.

Exports and imports

The number of food shipments exported reached a total of 4,015 letters. 185 thousand tons, including 850 food items, most notably potatoes, onions, beans, and pomegranates, while Saudi Arabia was at the forefront of importing countries. The incoming messages amounted to 1,890 messages amounting to 510 thousand tons of wheat, oils and soybeans, with Ukraine and Russia topping the list of supplying countries.

Coordination and control

The Authority carried out 107 inspection missions to factories and 38 visits to packing stations, and approved the registration of 65 food supplement products and 16 new companies. It also carried out 361 inspection visits to bakeries in cooperation with Catering. And 43 campaigns were conducted on commercial chains in 17 governorates.

Facilities and Storage

413 new food establishments and 29 warehouse missions were registered in 12 governorates, bringing the total number of registered stores to 1,482, of which 430 were approved. 9 sites for storing school food were also inspected, and 1,109 requests for transportation and storage of food consignments were issued.

Tourist Facilities and the Grand Museum

The Authority carried out 79 inspection visits to hotels and restaurants, including 11 facilities surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum to ensure compliance with food safety standards.

Dairy and Fish Sector

The Authority carried out 12 campaigns on dairy farms and collection centers in major production governorates, and 21 visits to the fish sector. And aquatic products, including factories, fishing vessels, and suppliers of marine products.

Complaints and Grievances

The Authority received 54 complaints, most of which were dealt with, and implemented 25 oversight campaigns in response to the reports. The Grievances Committee also examined 408 requests received from ports to ensure fairness in reservation or rejection decisions.

Field Monitoring

The Authority’s branches in the governorates carried out more than 300 inspection campaigns, which resulted in the seizure of quantities of spoiled and expired food and the closure of unlicensed establishments, most notably in Gharbia, Menoufia, Beheira, Ismailia, Damietta, Sohag, Luxor, Assiut, Kafr El-Sheikh and Fayoum, in cooperation with the regulatory and supply authorities.
