Tomorrow.. The Arab League will hold a dialogue session on starvation as a weapon of war and the Israeli aggression in Gaza

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States “Social Affairs Sector – Women’s Administration” will hold, tomorrow, Monday, a regional dialogue session via the digital platform entitled “Starvation as a Weapon of War: The Siege and Israeli Aggression and its Repercussions on Women in the Gaza Strip and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”
The Arab League stated – in a statement today, Sunday – that this comes within the framework of implementing the emergency committee’s action plan to protect women during Armed conflicts in the Arab region “2025 – 2028”, which was approved by the Women’s Committee at the ministerial level in its 44th session of 2025, in cooperation with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in the State of Palestine and the Regional Office of UN Women for Arab States.
She explained that this session comes at a very important time, in light of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis that the Gaza Strip is witnessing, after more than two years of aggression. The siege turned starvation into a systematic tool of war targeting civilians, especially women and girls, and led to catastrophic conditions threatening the food, health and psychological security of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian families.
The session aims to shed light on the humanitarian, social and psychological repercussions of using starvation as a weapon of war against civilians in Gaza, review the legal dimensions of this crime, and strengthen Arab and international coordination to ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid that takes into account the needs of affected women and girls, and to mobilize international solidarity. The session’s program includes opening speeches by Mona Al-Khalili, Minister of Women’s Affairs of the State of Palestine, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent, and Dr. Moez Duraid, Regional Director of UN Women for Arab States, in addition to a speech by Minister Plenipotentiary Duaa Fouad Khalifa, Director of the Women’s Department of the League of Arab States.
The dialogue session also includes a keynote speech by Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Yasmine Moussa, Legal Advisor in the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Egypt. The Arab League, on the legal dimensions of starvation as a war crime and legal accountability mechanisms, as well as an intervention from Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Erik Husem, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Egypt, and speakers from United Nations humanitarian and relief organizations, agencies and bodies.
