Sherif Fathi meets with the Ministers of Tourism and Culture of Albania and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Sri Lanka

As part of his participation in the meetings of the twenty-sixth session of the General Assembly of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh during the period from 7 to 11 November of this month, Mr. Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held bilateral meetings with Mr. Blendi Gonxhja, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Albania, and Mr. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of tourism. And antiquities.

During the meetings, Mr. Sherif Fathi reviewed the positive indicators in the flow of tourist traffic arriving at the Egyptian tourist destination during the past year and since the beginning of this year, pointing out that Egypt enjoys an exceptional diversity in tourism products that meet the different tastes and interests of tourists, as well as the Ministry’s endeavor to highlight this diversity and develop more authentic and richer tourist experiences.

The Minister also stressed the importance of developing the infrastructure supporting the tourism sector, reviewing the efforts made by the state. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to develop road and railway networks and raise the efficiency of airports, which contributes to enhancing connectivity between various Egyptian tourist destinations.

For their part, the Albanian and Sri Lankan ministers congratulated Mr. Sherif Fathi on the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, stressing that it is a world-class civilizational and cultural edifice that adds a unique dimension to the cultural tourism experience in Egypt. They also expressed their countries’ aspiration to exchange experiences in the fields of antiquities, museums, antiquities preservation and restoration, in addition to benefiting from Egyptian experts in museum management, developing museum display programs, and training cadres and students specialized in the archaeological fields in Albania and Sri Lanka.

In this context, the Albanian minister expressed his country’s desire to hold joint cultural and tourism events, proposing to organize an Egyptian week in Albania and an Albanian week in Egypt to introduce cultural heritage and enhance communication between the two peoples, in addition to discussing Mechanisms for joint tourism promotion between Egypt and Albania, and working to stimulate bilateral tourism by designing joint programs linking tourist destinations in the two countries.

The meetings were attended by Eng. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, and Professor Rana Gohar, Advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Communication and External Relations and General Supervisor of the General Administration of International Relations and Agreements in the Ministry.
