"Higher education"Integrated education to lead a knowledge economy within a framework "Vision 2031"

Abu Dhabi, November 12 / WAM / The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research affirmed its commitment to achieving the goals of the “We are the Emirates 2031” vision through an integrated educational system that enables young people to lead a competitive and sustainable knowledge economy.

His Excellency Taif Mohammed Al Amiri, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Regulation and Governance of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said that the ministerial decision issued in 2024 regarding updating the admission standards for higher education institutions gave universities greater flexibility in designing their academic programs and attracting students in specific specializations that are compatible with the requirements of the future labor market.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that the number of new students accepted into higher education institutions in the country for the academic year 2024-2025 reached 57,37 male and female students, both citizens and non-citizens, among 66 institutions that shared their data with the Ministry, an increase of more than 13% compared to last year, which is the highest registration rate for new students during the last decade.

The Ministry’s data showed that the percentage of female students reached 54% of the total new students, compared to 46% of males, as the number of registered female students reached 30,756, an increase of 10% over last year, while the number of male students reached 26,281 students, an increase of 18%, which reflects the gender balance in opportunities to enroll in higher education.

The Ministry confirmed that this growth reflects the development of the university admission system and the effectiveness of modern digital procedures, most notably the unified national registration system, which has strengthened coordination between the Ministry and universities and facilitated admission procedures.

Her Excellency Taif Mohammed Al Amiri explained that the new decision gives higher education institutions flexibility in determining admission criteria based on students’ competence and potential and not just their grades, which contributes to enabling them to continue university education in specializations that support the national economy.
