Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, witnessed today, Friday, the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the “Urban Development Fund” And “Azza Fahmy Foundation for the Development of Crafts and Handicrafts” To establish an integrated cultural and training center for teaching handicrafts, in the “Milky Way” region, on the sidelines of the launch of the Fustat Winter Festival for the year 2025, which is hosted by the Fustat Hills Park. To develop craft and handicraft industries.

 

Madbouly said, “The memorandum of understanding signed today is an important step with the aim of establishing an open museum for handicrafts in historic Cairo, ensuring the sustainability of these crafts and their transfer to future generations. It also represents a model of integration between the state, civil society, and pioneers in the cultural field; This is to preserve the authentic Egyptian identity.

 

On the sidelines of the signing, Engineer Khaled Siddiq, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Urban Development Fund, indicated that the signed memorandum of understanding aims to establish a craft cultural center in the “Darb Al-Labbana” area. Al-Khalifa neighborhood in Cairo; This center will be a nucleus for reviving and developing Egyptian handicrafts and heritage, and restoring Cairo’s historical role as a beacon for traditional arts and crafts.

 

He added, “This cooperation comes as a result of the state’s efforts to support creative industries and heritage crafts, and an emphasis on the importance of involving leading figures in this field,” noting that engineer Azza Fahmy is considered one of the most prominent Arab designers who contributed to developing the craft of design. And crafting jewelry, and conveying the Egyptian heritage to the world.

 

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Urban Development Fund” explained: The craft cultural center project, which will be established through the “Azza Fahmy Foundation for the Development of Craft and Handicraft Industries” It will be established inside a building belonging to the Urban Development Fund in the “Darb Al-Labanah” area. In front of the Mimar House, which is located on a building area of ​​approximately 2,370 square meters, adding that the building was designed to be a literal cultural center that hosts exhibitions, events, and training workshops.

 

He continued, “The project was designed through a contract with the Urban Development Fund.” With architectural designers specialized in historical and heritage architecture, with the aim of preserving the urban fabric of the region registered with UNESCO.
