The UAE confirms its leadership in multilateral climate action and enhancing international cooperation during the opening of the 30th Conference of the Parties

Belem – Federative Republic of Brazil, November 15, 2017 – The United Arab Emirates, during the opening session of the thirtieth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP30), held in the city of Belem, renewed its firm commitment to multilateral climate action, stressing the importance of achieving collective progress and strengthening international partnerships in order to accelerate the pace of global implementation and achieve the goal of keeping global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius.

His Excellency Abdullah Al-Alaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, headed the UAE delegation during the conference.

The integrated approach and forward-looking visions of the UAE in climate diplomacy, based on a comprehensive methodology that includes the government and society, confirm the close and well-established partnership in its direction.

Within the framework of a unified national effort that reflects the continuity of leadership from the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the thirtieth Conference of the Parties (COP30), the UAE delegation included ministers, high-level officials, negotiators and experts from various national bodies. This reflects the national vision of the United Arab Emirates as a leading and reliable country to support cooperation in this regard, and as a main driver for building consensus and enhancing collective climate ambition through cooperation and confidence-building as a basis for joint progress.

The UAE’s agenda at the Conference of the Parties (COP30) focuses on transforming ambition into realistic implementation through practical and comprehensive solutions based on partnerships, based on the “Historic UAE Agreement” that was signed during the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties (COP28). The country gives priority to accelerating financing for climate action, expanding the scope of innovation in the field of clean energy, and empowering youth and communities within the framework of leading long-term sustainable development paths, in addition to strengthening efforts based on natural solutions and adaptation to increase resilience and transform commitments into Tangible results.

As part of its preparations to host the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in partnership with the Republic of Senegal, the UAE is leading a strategic global effort aimed at putting water at the heart of sustainable development and climate action. Through high-level dialogues and expanding partnerships between various sectors, the country is pushing towards an integrated approach that links the water agenda to all pillars of development, which enhances resilience, stimulates innovation, and contributes to crystallizing a common vision for a sustainable water future, ahead of the international conference in December 2026.

The UAE’s participation in the 30th Conference of the Parties consolidates its role as a leading country for global solutions, and as a major partner for all countries seeking to find practical ways to achieve a just, comprehensive and equitable transition in climate action. Through its firm commitment to partnership and implementation, the UAE continues to demonstrate future leadership in formulating scientific and comprehensive solutions that benefit people and the planet, and inspire collective action towards a sustainable and prosperous global future for all.
