Health care: 800,000 surgical interventions in the governorates of the first phase of comprehensive health insurance

The General Health Care Authority announced the total number of surgical interventions performed under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance, which amounted to 800,000 surgical operations performed in the authority’s hospitals in the governorates of: “Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, Aswan,” in all surgical specialties, since the launch of the comprehensive health insurance system until now.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Sobky, Chairman of the Health Care Authority, General Supervisor of Comprehensive Health Insurance Project: Approximately 25% of the total surgical interventions performed are precise, advanced and highly skilled operations, performed according to the highest standards of quality and patient safety, with success rates comparable to international rates, indicating that this reflects the great development in the level of medical services within the authority’s facilities.
Al-Subki added that the authority now owns 197 operating rooms equipped with the latest medical devices, and works in accordance with the latest international practices and standards for performing all types of surgical operations, from simple interventions to major operations. And complex ones, within the authority’s 43 hospitals in the six governorates of the system.
The head of the authority continued: Implementing the system has resulted in the availability of a huge amount of innovative medical services and many high-precision surgical operations that are performed for the first time for beneficiaries of comprehensive health insurance, in the Canal and Upper Egypt regions, such as open-heart surgeries and Whipple surgeries to remove pancreatic tumors, corneal transplant surgeries, cardiac and brain catheters, cochlear implants and repair of malformations. Curvature of the spine, fragmentation of kidney stones using X-ray and shock wave technology, treatment of bile duct obstruction using the Randfo technique, in addition to endoscopic and microscope operations, as well as the development of technologies such as catheters to treat heart diseases without surgery using TAVI and CTO techniques, and other new technologies and surgeries, which enables the citizen to obtain quality medical service within his governorate without burdening him with the hardship of moving outside the governorate to obtain medical service. Al-Subki pointed out that the Authority’s hospitals and all its facilities are working with the utmost effort to serve the beneficiaries of comprehensive health insurance and provide them with integrated health care and services at the highest level of quality and in accordance with the latest international standards, practices and treatment protocols, noting that the hospitals are equipped with the latest medical and non-medical technologies and supplies, and also include the most skilled specialist doctors and consultants in various specialties, pointing to the reduction of financial burdens on the beneficiary of the insurance system’s services. Comprehensive health care, as the beneficiary does not cost more than 482 pounds as a percentage of contribution to the operation, regardless of its cost outside comprehensive health coverage, which in most cases reaches one million pounds.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Sobky concluded by stressing that these numbers and successes reflect the authority’s leadership in providing integrated and sustainable health services, and that it continues to work at a steady pace towards transforming into a smart and comprehensive health care model based on quality, innovation, and user satisfaction, within the framework of Egypt’s 2030 vision towards a healthy society.
