Urgent.. Statement from the President regarding the launch of the fifth edition of Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development Week

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said today, in a presidential statement: As the African Union’s pioneer for post-conflict reconstruction and development, I am pleased to announce the launch of the activities of the fifth edition of the African Union Week for Awareness of Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development. This will take place during the period from November 17 to 23, 2025, under the title “Rebuilding Life After Conflict through Compensatory Justice,” the main activities of which will be held in Cairo this year.
Our African continent faces many intertwined security and development challenges, which include internal conflicts, the spread of terrorism, cross-border crimes, humanitarian crises, poverty, and declining education rates, in conjunction with other challenges. Emerging such as climate change and the use of advanced technology.
The continent also stands at the forefront of those affected by the international circumstances surrounding the state of polarization and competition it is witnessing, which perpetuates the fragile conditions and security and development challenges present on the continent, and negatively affects the sincere African efforts towards implementing the ambitious strategies and policies of the African Union to achieve stability, development and prosperity for our African peoples in accordance with the 2063 African Development Agenda.
Despite the above, our continent Africa is replete with enormous components, resources, and human wealth, and it has made significant strides towards unleashing these components to support peace, security, and development in its countries.
It has also become necessary to strengthen solidarity and adopt comprehensive approaches that take into account the root causes of the challenges facing the continent, and at the heart of them are post-conflict reconstruction and development and activating the updated African Union policy relevant to post-conflict contexts, by working to rehabilitate institutions and support national ownership of solutions, building the capabilities of citizens and cadres, and raising awareness. The risks of conflicts, advancing comprehensive development efforts, and involving sectors of society, led by youth and women, in all these efforts, while working to achieve justice for victims of conflicts.
The holding of the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development in October 2025 was an embodiment of the Egyptian vision aimed at strengthening the link between peace, security and development, including post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts.
In this context, I would like to praise the efforts of the African Union Center for Reconstruction. Post-conflict reconstruction and development in Cairo with the programs and activities it has undertaken over the past years in a number of African countries with the aim of supporting their efforts towards stability and recovery from the effects of conflicts, building their national capabilities, and raising awareness among their citizens. I look forward to the continuation of this effort and building on it to achieve the aspirations of the peoples of our precious continent for sustainable peace and security. In the end, I cannot fail to praise the efforts of the African Union Commission in supporting the implementation of reconstruction and peace-building activities on the continent, and I affirm My leadership of the file is based on my personal commitment to continue to do my best in coordination with my fellow African leaders, the African Union Commission, regional stakeholders and international partners to respond to the legitimate aspirations of the people of the continent and achieve the goals of the Africa Agenda 2063.
