Abu Dhabi, 16 November / WAM / The “Blood Transfusion Updates Conference” recommended continuing to support innovation in the field of blood transfusion, enhancing studies and research on alternative blood and digital technologies to improve the quality of services and speed of response in emergency situations, in addition to enhancing international cooperation between centers and hospitals to exchange experiences and best practices.

This came at the conclusion of the conference yesterday in Abu Dhabi, amid wide participation of doctors and specialists in blood transfusion medicine, laboratories and clinical practices from the United States, Canada, Japan and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with the support of the Emirates Medical Association (EMA).

The closing day of the conference witnessed discussion sessions that addressed developments in the treatment of donor blood to make it safer, the introduction of more tests for infectious diseases such as malaria testing, and the latest blood transfusion guidelines, including updates specifically for patients with sickle cell anemia and thalassemia, in addition to mechanisms for preparedness to respond in cases of mass incidents, and donor databases.

She pointed out that this digital service ensures continuous communication with donors, reduces the time they spend inside the center, raises the quality of service, reduces medical errors, and documents information, which saves more time. For employees to focus on technical services.

She touched on the “Wateen” electronic platform, which connects the Dubai Blood Donation Center to all licensed hospitals, including 47 private hospitals and 6 government hospitals in Dubai Health, explaining that the platform works to receive all requests for blood units and components in a digital form, which made the time for providing the service shorter compared to the previous system, which relied on sending forms and requests manually, and that the Dubai Donation Center has become the main source for meeting the hospitals’ blood needs in a faster and more accurate manner.
