A partnership between the Institute of Technology Innovation and"Thales" To promote research in quantum technology, autonomous systems and directed energy

DUBAI, 20 November / WAM / The Technological Innovation Institute, the applied research arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council in Abu Dhabi, yesterday signed a cooperation agreement with Thales, a global company specializing in advanced technology, with the aim of advancing technological development in the fields of quantum, autonomous systems and directed energy.

The agreement, which was signed during the Dubai Air Show, lays the foundations for a long-term partnership in research and development to enhance innovation and practical applications.

This partnership embodies the UAE’s commitment to building a sovereign research system and enhancing its growing role as a catalyst for global cooperation in the field of technology.

Working with Thales, a multinational corporation headquartered in Paris, represents an opportunity to enhance Emirati-French cooperation in the fields of advanced science and technology. This cooperation also confirms the position of the Technological Innovation Institute as a global destination for advanced research and development, and highlights Thales’ commitment to developing applied sciences through strategic partnerships.

The agreement focuses on a group of advanced technology areas through which both parties have extensive experience, including: “Quantum sensing: developing ultra-precise sensing technologies based on the principles of quantum physics, including measuring gravity, magnetic fields, and precise navigation, and advanced autonomous systems: developing robots and self-navigation systems across various environments, whether air, land, sea, or space, with a focus on coordinating robot swarms, adaptive autonomy, and executing tasks supported by artificial intelligence, as well as advanced command and control systems, laser technologies, and power generation: high-power laser systems, and control technologies.” “Package-accurate, compact and scalable power supplies for future applications in energy broadcasting and defense.”

Dr. Najwa Al-Araj, CEO of the Technological Innovation Institute, said that the goal is to advance research and development in future technology and enhance global cooperation by uniting efforts with ambitious institutions that turn ideas into tangible impact, pointing out that with this cooperation, two of the most prominent global bodies in applied scientific research are coming together to push the boundaries of science and formulate the new phase of technological progress and enhance value.

This cooperation revolves around accelerating the transition from scientific research to practical application and meeting the operational needs of customers.

By bringing together elite researchers from both parties, the time required to bring new technology to market will be reduced, enhancing opportunities for developing more efficient processes and supporting pioneering innovations at the sector level.

For his part, Dr. Shawqi Qasimi, the chief innovation officer at the Technological Innovation Institute, said that the institute believes that innovation constitutes a bridge between scientific discovery and societal progress, and by uniting efforts with Thales, this link will be strengthened by developing technologies that chart new horizons in quantum computing, autonomous systems, and photons, and providing solutions that contribute to building a safer, smarter, and more sustainable world.

For his part, Abdul Hafez Mardi, Vice President of Thales in the Emirates and Iraq, and CEO of Thales Emirates Technology, said that Thales’ partnership with the Technological Innovation Institute is based on integrated expertise in the fields of quantum computing, autonomous systems, and photons, which are essential areas for the next generation of smart and safe systems.

He added that through this cooperation, work is being done to transform scientific excellence into practical innovations that support the UAE’s vision of building an advanced and sovereign knowledge economy capable of keeping pace with the future.
