The Minister of Local Development follows up on the work of developing government slaughterhouses and operating two slaughterhouses in Upper Egypt

The Minister of Local Development announced the start of trial operation of the Al-Habil slaughterhouses in Luxor, and the one in Nag Hammadi in Qena, at a total cost of 60 million pounds, in preparation for their official opening within the national project to develop and raise the efficiency of government slaughterhouses nationwide.
The Minister said that the most prominent findings in the follow-up on the two slaughterhouses:
• Trial operation of the slaughterhouses after the technical committee reviewed all structural, technical and environmental requirements.
• The project comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to improve the structure of slaughterhouses and provide safe and healthy meat to citizens.
• 20 government slaughterhouses were delivered to the governorates and operated during the last period, and a number of others were offered for investment.
• Introducing new slaughterhouses to the private sector to ensure sustainable operation and preserve state investments.
• Al-Habil slaughterhouse:
• Area: 4500 m²
• Cost: 38 million pounds
• Carcass capacity: 80 heads/shift
• The Ho massacre – Qena:
• Area: 2100 m²
• Cost: 22 million pounds
• Carcass capacity: 80 heads/shift
• The slaughterhouses rely on the latest technological systems in slaughtering, processing, and compost production to support sustainability and environmental protection.
